Eid is the festival which is celebrated by the Muslims all over the world. It is also known as ”Eid-al-Fitr”, which indicates the marking the end of Ramadan the month of Islamic holy month of fasting. This year it is falling on 6th July 2016.On this day , the Muslims are not allowed to be on fast.
This day marks the starting of Shawwal month. The date is starting of lunar Hijri and it is based on the observation of new moon by the local Islamic authorities and it differs with the celebration on localities, but it is observed celebrated on the same day of new moon like in Saudi Arabia.
On this special occasion done by the Muslims , they all pay a particular prayer Salat for Eid by all Sunnis and Shias . Hence all of them believes that they are commanded by Allah, as mentioned in Quran and should continue their fasts till the last day of Ramadan. Not only Eid –al- Fitr but all the festival done in Islamic are done after the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca and which were initiated in Medina.
It is also celebrated with great enthusiasm and great pomp. Generally, Eid-al- fitr is celebrated for three days and giving greetings to each other by saying ‘Eid Mubarak’ and Muslims are also encouraged to forget and forgive any differences with each other. Traditionally they wake up early in the morning before sunrise and offer Salatul Fajr and keeping Prophet in their minds they bath and clean themselves and wear new clothes and apply perfume.
It is believed to forbidden to fast on that day so they start their mornings by eating a sweet delight of date before attending Eid prayer. Charity and money is offered to poor and needy before the holy prayer. Holy prayer is then offered in the name of Allah in Mosques by men and women do all the same process at their home, reciting the incantations low voices and greeting everybody by saying Eid Mubarak.
Special feastings are prepared for the members of family and relatives. Eid gifts are also given to each other commonly known as ‘Eidi’ on the occasion, it mainly includes the candies and toys purposely for children. Its festivities may vary from region depending on the culture but common in generosity and hospitality.
Many Saudis go out and greet to complete strangers at random. It is believed that people buy a large sum of rice and other staples and drop it at random strangers who are needy and poor. In the major cities of Saudi Arabia a huge fireworks program is set up of their way of show towards their happiness.
