The Lailat al Miraj or Shab-e-Miraj is a Muslim festival celebrated in all Muslim countries including India, Bangladesh, Iraq, Iran and many more. Muslims usually offer prayers during the night and some Muslims illuminates the lights and candles.
The stories are usually told to children that ho Muhammad’s heart was purified by an archangel and being filled with knowledge and faith in order to enter the seven levels of the heaven. After the prayers are being served, food and treats are offered to friends and relatives.
The real story says Isra and Miraj are the two parts of the night journey where according to the Islamic tradition, Prophet Muhammad took a single night journey in 521. Many stories are in Sura 17 Al-Isra of the Quran and many in Hadith, which are collections of reports from deeds, saying and teachings of Muhammad himself.
In the Isra part of his journey, he travels on steed Buraq to the farthest mosque or from Mecca to Jerusalem, which leads him to other prophets in the prayers. In Miraj journey, he speaks to Allah in the heaven who then instructs him to take back the faithful regarding the details of prayer and Muslims must pray fifty times in a day which was very difficult, So, Muhammad urged and finally it was kept for five per day.
Al- Aqsa Mosque is believed to be the place from where Muhammad went to heaven, believed to be the third holiest place on the earth for Muslims and the exact date is not yet assured.
Although, it is believed to have happened just a year before the Hijra, on 27th of Rajab is a day of Muhammad’s first day of calling, but yet not clear. In the year 2016, it wll be celebrated on 5th May.
According to the spiritualists, Muhammad was transported to seven heavens, but the disciple’s body remained where it was.
