Parades are also being done in the schools all over the India by the students to pay tribute to this Nation and spread the feeling of being proud to be an Indian, for sharing the same piece of land where various religions, cultures live together happily .

Programs on this day usually begins by welcoming the chief guests, Flag hosting ,parades performances, dance performances, patriotic songs, poems, and much more ,and ends up with our National anthem and vote of thanks to the chief guests.

Talking about the events on this day at Rajpath , New Delhi, every year the parade commences from the gates of Rashtrapati Bhawan. The main attraction for the huge crowd that is present at the place are the performances given by the bands of the three wings of the military, the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air force and students, dance performers, etc.

Chief Guest of the function is the President of India who is escorted by the PBG commanders; the unit gives the National salute to him followed by the playing of the Indian National Anthem ‘JANA-GANA-MANA’.

This day is called Republic Day because it was on this day only when the Constitution of India came into force in the year 1950. The Constitution was adopted on 26th November, 1949 but it came into effect on this day. This date was chosen due to the reason that in the year 1930, the declaration of Indian independence was proclaimed by the National Congress of India on this same day only.

As we know, that India achieved independence from the British on 15th August, 1947 followed by independence movement of India and civil disobedience movement by Gandhi ji. Due to Indian Independence Act of 1947 only, India became independent. Although, the drafting committee prepared and submitted the constitution on 4th November, 1947.

And it took around 2years, 11 months, 18 days to adopt the constitution after so many modifications, resulting into the acceptance by 308 members of the Assembly, being signed the two hand-written copies of the document both in English and Hindi on 24th January,1950.

So, from 26th January, 1950 it is being named as Republic day of India and declared as a National holiday also.
